GREENWOOD, S.C. - The Emmanuel College baseball team fell to Lander University in both of their doubleheader games on Sunday afternoon. What was supposed to be a home doubleheader for EC was changed to a pair of away games due to heavy flooding earlier in the week.

GAME #1

EC had 4 hits, 2 RBI's and drew 4 walks. Royce Peterson, Kyle Gaura and Quinn Tomasino each recorded singles while Demetrius Foster hit a double. Gaura and Tomasino both had 1 RBI apiece.

Jake Denham faced 25 batters in 6 innings of play, recording 6 strikeouts while allowing 5 hits and 1 walk.

In the top of the third, Foster doubled to right field. Luke Patty was then walked before Gaura's single advanced Patty to second and brought Foster home. Tomasino would step up to the plate next, singling to left field and bringing Patty home. A final strikeout would close out the top of the inning with EC leading 2-0.

The Bearcats responded in the bottom of the third with 3 runs. EC was unable to score again as the Bearcats ran up the final score to 9-2.

GAME #2

EC had 10 hits, 3 RBI's and drew 5 walks. Royce Peterson, Luke Patty, Kyle Gaura, and Kyle LaCross all singled, Demetrius Foster and Jorge Villalabos both recorded two singles, and Quinn Tomasino had 1 single and 1 double with 3 RBI's.

Tyler Robinson pitched the first two innings, facing 13 batters and recording 1 strikeout. He allowed 4 hits and no walks. Thomas Rutherford took over the mound in the third inning and faced 19 batters in 4 innings. Rutherford recorded 2 strikeouts and gave up 6 hits and 1 walk.

Despite their highest hitting game of the season, EC lost their lead in the third inning and were unable to catchup to Lander who posted 8 runs and 11 hits.

Next up, EC will kick off conference play with an away series against Belmont Abbey on Friday and Saturday, February 14th & 15th.
