Jharna Alston named indoor track athlete of the year

Winston Salem, NC- The Emmanuel Women's and Men's Track and Field teams finished out their indoor season at the Conference Carolinas Championship this past Sunday and Monday. The Lions had many top finishers as they closed out the indoor season strong. 

One of the highlights of the trip was Jharna Alston, senior, who brought home the gold for the Lions this weekend. Alston placed first in both the 60m dash, recording a time of 7.68, and the 200m dash, recording a time of 24.87. This culminated in her being named the 2022 Conference Carolinas Indoor Track Athlete of the Year. Congradulations to Jharna!

Clara Heiss, senior, won the Women's Pole Vault, placing 1st with a jump of 3.29m. Heiss also competed in the 60m Hurdles, finishing 4th with a time of 9.28.
 
Blake Walker, sophomore, finished 4th overall in the 60m dash with a time of 6.97 
 
Ahmad Perryman, junior, finished 2nd in the 200m dash with a time of 22.34
 
Sulaimane Bangura and Josiah Campbell, seniors, both competed in the 400m dash. Bangura finished 2ndwith a time of 49.07 and Campbell finished 6th with a time of 50.79. 
 
Ethan Hargrove, senior, finished the 800m dash with a time of 2:07.98
 
Brandon Martin, freshman, competed in the Men's 1 Mile run, finishing 4th with a time of 4:21.97. Felipe Barrios, freshman, Demarco Hernandez, sophomore, and Alexander Andrade-Sosa, senior, also competed in the 1 Mile run, finishing with times of 4:25.82, 4:32.23, and 4:39.42. 
 
Griffin Stephens, sophomore, competed in the 3000m run, finishing with a time of 9:05.06. Demarco Hernandez also competed in the 3000m run, finishing 3rd with a time 8:51.47. 
 
Alexander Andrade-Sosa, senior, also competed in the 5000m run, finishing with a time of 15:56.58. 
 
The Men's 4x400m relay team finished 3rd overall with a time of 3:25.21
 
The Men's Distance Medley relay team finished 1st with a time of 10:30.30. 
 
Jason Burke, junior, finished 4th in the Men's high jump recording a jump of 1.93m. Burke also competed in Men's Long Jump, recording a jump of 6.28m. 
 
Tucker Flint, sophomore, competed in Men's Pole Vault finishing in 2nd with a jump of 4.38m
 
Kevin Wood, sophomore, and Kristian Carrs, freshman, both competed in Men's Long Jump. Wood recorded a jump of 6.75m and Carrs recorded a jump of 6.45m. Wood also competed in Men's Triple Jump, finishing with a jump of 13.41m. 
 
Taylor Farmer, sophomore, competed in the Women's 800m Run, finishing with a time of 2:37.94. 
 
Riley Triplett, freshman, placed 4th in the Women's 1 Mile Run, finishing with a time of 5:28.65. 
 
The Women's 4x400m relay finished 9th with a time of 4:27.55
 
Moena Battle, senior, placed 1st in Women's High Jump, with a jump of 1.61m. Battle also competed in Women's Long Jump finishing 7th with a jump of 5.11m. 
 
Katrina Wolfe, freshman, competed in Women's Long Jump, recording a jump of 3.42m. 
 
Julia Styrmisdottir, freshman, competed in the Women's Shot Put, recording a throw of 8.03m. 
 
The Lion's will close out their indoor regular season on February 26-27 at the Last Chance Meet.
