Lions Have Record-Breaking Showing at Camel City Invitational

WINSTON SALEM, NC - The Emmanuel College Men's and Women's Track and Field teams traveled to Winston Salem, NC, to compete in the Camel City Invitational. The Lions continued their strong indoor season with many top-20 finishers in the highly competitive field that included many Division I programs. The biggest highlights of the day were Jharna Alston, who finished 1st in the Women's 200 Meter and 2nd in the Women's 60 Meter, and Ahmad Perryman, who finished 1st overall in the Men's 100 Meter. Additionally, Clara Heiss and Moena Battle had record-setting performances of their own.
 
Ahmad Perryman finished 1st among all competitors in the Men's 200 Meter Final with an official 22.62 finish time. 
 
Josiah Campbell finished 13th in the Men's 200 Meter Final with a 23.05 finish. In the same event, Blake Walker finished 15th with an official 23.36 finish. 
 
Josiah Campbell, senior, finished 7th among competitors in the Men's 400 Meters with an official 51.15 finish. Ahmad Perryman finished 11th in the event with a 51.88 finish. 
 
The team of Josiah Campbell, Sulaimane Bangura, Blake Walker, and Ethan Hargrove finished 4th in the Men's 4x400 Relay with a 3:26.63 team finish. 
 
The team of Ethan Hargrove, Sulaimane Bangura, Felipe Barrios, and Brandon Martin finished 3rd in the Men's Distance Medley Relay with a 10:34.86 team finish. 
 
Jason Burke finished 3rd overall in the Men's High Jump with a final jump of 1.95 meters. Burke also finished 12th in the Men's Long Jump with a 6.32 meter jump. 
 
Tucker Flint finished 7th overall in the Men's Pole Vault with a jump of 4.25 meters.
 
Kevin Wood finished 19th in the Men's Long Jump with a 6.04 meter jump. Wood also finished 4th overall in the Men's Triple Jump with a 12.76 meter jump. 
 
Jharna Alston finished 1st among all competitors in the Women's 200 Meters with a 24.97 official time, ranking her 8th in the nation amongst Division II. Alston also finished 2nd overall in the Women's 60 Meters with an official 7.63 finish. 
 
Clara Heiss finished 11th overall (1st among DII) in the Women's Pole Vault, recording a 3.35 meter jump. This impressive feat was a personal indoor record and ranks her first in Conference Carolinas. Heiss also finished 20th among competitors in the Women's 60 Meter Hurdles with an official 9.41 finish.
 
Madelyn Bright finished 8th overall in the Women's High Jump, recording a 1.55 meter jump. Bright also finished 20th among competitors in the Women's Long Jump with an official 4.6 meter jump. 
 
Moena Battle finished 11th overall in the Women's Long Jump with an official 5.24 meter jump, shattering the previous Emmanuel school record.
 
The Lions hope for another strong showing as they travel to Birmingham, AL, to compete in the Samford Bulldog Open on February 12th.
