Lions Earn Five Individual Wins and Eight Podium Spots at Conference Carolinas Outdoor Track and Field Championship

MOUNT OLIVE, NC - The 2022 Conference Carolinas Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships were held on Friday and Saturday in Mount Olive, NC. The Emmanuel men finished fifth, while the women finished sixth. 

Individually, Emmanuel took home five first place finishes and had eight podium spots. 

Women's top finishes:

Jharna Alston captured the conference crown in both the 100 and 200 meter dash. In the 100m, she posted a time of 11.79. In the 200, she recorded a time of 23.99, currently the 18th best mark in the nation. Alston finished as the top overall female point scorer with 20 points. 

Moena Battle finished first in the high jump, clearing a mark of 1.70 meters. Madelyn Bright finished fourth in the same event (1.59m). Battle was also on the podium in the women's javelin throw with a mark of 34.59 meters. 

Clara Heiss finished first in the women's pole vault, winning comfortably with a mark of 3.30 meters. 

Riley Triplett finished fourth in the 1500 meter run with a time of 5:04.35. 

Men's top finishes:

Ethan Hargrove won the 800 meter with a time of 1:55.06.

Brandon Martin finished second in the 5000 meter with a time of 14:54.07. Out of 29 competitors in the 5000, Emmanuel had four inside the top seven. Demarco Hernández was fourth (14:56.63), Griffin Stephens sixth (15:18.49) and Jordan Robertson seventh (15:19.79). 

Jason Burke finished second in the high jump, hitting a mark of 1.99 meters. 

Next up, those that qualify for nationals will head to Michigan for the 2022 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships. Sulaimane Bangura, Jharna Alston, and Moena Battle have all hit provisional marks, but final qualifiers will be announced by the NCAA.
