Lions Lacrosse Falls to Newberry College in Second Home Game

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. - The Emmanuel College Men's Lacrosse team hosted Newberry College for their second home game of the season.

The Feb. 17 game ended in a 15-7 loss for the Lions.

William Schlorf made the first goal for the Lions with 7:42 remaining in the first quarter. Newberry made two goals at 3:18 and 1:32 to end the quarter 2-1.

With less than 30 seconds off the clock in the second quarter, Tyler Machado made a goal with an assist from Lance Olson. The Lions were tied with Newberry 2-2.

After another goal from Newberry at 13:53, Alex Stull made the third goal for the Lions with an assist from Schlorf. The game was tied again at 3-3.

Newberry made two more goals in the second quarter before Machado made the fourth goal for the Lions with another assist from Schlorf. The Lions trailed 5-4 with 1:53 remaining.

The third quarter started with the Lions trailing 6-4 after Newberry made another goal with less than a minute remaining in the second quarter.

Newberry also made the first two goals of the third quarter, leaving the Lions trailing 8-4 with 8:38 remaining. After a timeout from Emmanuel, a faceoff won by Newberry and attempted shots from both teams, Stull made the fifth goal for the Lions with an assist from Matt Casey.

Another goal wasn't made for the Lions until Stull made the sixth goal with 1:16 remaining. This put Emmanuel's trail at 11-6. With only six seconds remaining in the third quarter, Newberry made another goal and ended 12-6

Schlorf made the second goal of the fourth quarter and the seventh goal for the Lions with 4:20 remaining. After two more goals from Newberry, the Lions ended the game with a 15-7 loss.

The Lions finished the game with 22 ground balls, 23 turnovers, and 19 shots. Out of those 19 shots, Stull had six, Brian Marter had four, Kylon Collins, Justin Parker, Machado, and Schlorf had two and Cam Free had one.

Goalie Ethan Brundage ended the game with 23 saves. The team also finished the game winning three out of the 24 faceoffs.

The Lions will travel to Shorter University for their next game on Feb. 21.
