Box Score FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga - Women's basketball took on the King University Tornado on Wednesday evening. The Lions defeated the Tornado 62-60, moving their record to 17-7 overall and 14-4 in conference.
The Tornado got off to a hot start, dominating the Lions for the first five minutes of the game as they built a 14 point lead before Coach Bona called a timeout for Emmanuel. The Lions put up 10 points after the timeout, but still allowed King to score 7 more. After ten minutes of play the Tornado led the Lions, 25-14.
In the second quarter, the Tornado held onto their lead, but the Lions gained some momentum. A late push cut the Lion's double-digit deficit to only 3 points heading into halftime, 33-30.
Emmanuel carried their momentum into the second half, gaining the lead for the first time all game as they pulled ahead by five, 45-40. The Tornado surged in the last few minutes of the third quarter, narrowly regaining their lead over the Lions, 47-46.
The fourth quarter was the most evenly matched of the game as neither team could pull away. The Tornado led by one, 58-57, with a minute to play when junior Breanna Locke was sent to the line to shoot two. Locke converted both free throws, giving the Lions a one point advantage. King was charged with a shot clock violation on the next play after missing the rim on a three point attempt. Locke was fouled on the inbound with 15 second remaining and proceeded to convert two more free throws, giving the Lions a three point lead, 61-58. King was unable to score on the next possession. Junior Brooke Whittaker converted one more free throw for the Lions, while a final effort from King produced 2 more points for the Tornado, resulting in a two point Emmanuel victory, 62-60.
Locke led the way for the Lions with 23 Points and 6 rebounds, while sophomore Jazmin Allen had 9 points. Senior Ajah Taylor finished the game with 11 rebounds.
