Lions Edged Out By Young Harris, 14-12

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. - Emmanuel men's lacrosse was narrowly defeated 14-12 by Young Harris on Saturday afternoon. This loss brings the Lions record to 2-4 overall. 
 
FIRST PERIOD
The Mountain Lions commanded the field in the first quarter with five unanswered goals to take a quick 5-0 lead.
 
SECOND PERIOD
EC answered back in the second quarter with back to back goals from Benjamin Bryant and Alan Velasquez to cut the Young Harris lead to 3. Lance Olson, Ethan Perez, and Alex Stull each recorded a goal as well, but a late string of goals from Young Harris put the Mountain Lions back up to a 5 point lead, 10-5.
 
THIRD PERIOD
The Lions bested Young Harris in scoring for the first time of the night. Matthew Mitchell fired in a shot before Young Harris' Cody Bielec scored one of his own. The teams continued to exchange with another EC goal from Timothy Manley Jr and YH goal from Jimmy Johnston. With 6 minutes remaining on the clock, Alex Stull delivered back to back goals. The Mountain Lions responded by capitalizing on a man-up opportunity to score one last goal before period end. EC 9, YH 12.
 
FOURTH PERIOD
After Young Harris scored their final goal with 11:28 on the clock, the Lions had their strongest scoring streak of the game to cut down their deficit to just 2 points. Stull had two consecutive goals with assists from Justin Parker. One more goal would come from the Lions when Velasquez picked up his second of the afternoon. Despite getting within 2 points of Young Harris, the Lions were unable to score in the final 7 minutes of play, resulting in a 14-12 loss.
 
Alex Stull led the Lions with 5 goals. Ethan Brundage recorded 9 saves while allowing 10 goals in the first half. Luke Harris had 2 saves and allowed 4 goals in the latter 30 minutes of play.
 
Next up, the Lions will host Barton College on Thursday, March 5th for their first conference matchup of the season.
